Superstar Jr NTR, who is known for his fiery roles in hits like 'Aadi' and 'Simhadri', mellows down in his latest release 'Baadshah'. He is seen cracking jokes with his heroine and others, rather than breaking the bones of the thugs, although, he has his fair share of action scenes.
Director Srinu Vytla rose to the top with his 'comedy-action concoction' and makes the superstars play to the gallery with pranks that evoke laughter. There’s more in store with comedians Brahmanandam and M.S. Narayana, but his mixture soon becomes sour and staple.
The director even takes a dig at his colleagues Ram Gopal Varma and Boyapati Srinu through the character of Revenge Nageshwar Rao (M.S. Narayana) and evokes few laughs, but making Brahmanadam believe that he is in a 'dream world' is a bit much to digest.
Even the plot is loosely inspired from the Tamil hit of Kamal Haasan's 'Kaaki Chattai', as the protagonist enters the gang of dons to demolish their plans.
Jr NTR, however, impresses as a funny lover boy as well as a dare-devil youngster, but the wafer-thin plot could disappoint his huge fan following. Kaajal as a good-looking girl, who keeps preaching ideal living, is impressive too. But the Jr NTR-Kaajal onscreen chemistry doesn't really take-off and composer Thaman could have belted few more chart busters.
Writer Kona Venkat has penned some interesting comic-one liners and powerful punch lines, but that's not enough for this much-awaited film to live up to the big expectations. Even though, the famed director-writer duo have many hits in their kitty, it’s high time, they discover a new winning formula since all their films are beginning to look alike.
